Nando’s roots are steeped in African culture
and heritage, which
is why we are passionate about our on-going support of local
communities and providing opportunities for people to realize their
potential. With this in mind, we commission artists from diverse
backgrounds, with exceptional talent, to create the masterpieces
you see on the walls of many of our restaurants around Malaysia.
At Nando’s we like to think of our restaurants as home from
home. We believe our Peri-Peri Chicken should be enjoyed in an
environment that inspires good times around the table. Our unique
Malaysian collection helps create a warm and relaxed atmosphere
where people can really enjoy the flavours of Nando’s and Malaysia.
The different forms of art we have chosen, which include embroidery,
mosaic, batik, painting, wire work, woodcuts, beadwork and
tapestries, each offer a unique vibrant interpretation of the
Nando’s
brand through the eyes of the artist. Using colour, textures,
variation
in technique and vivid Malaysian and Nando’s imagery, they have
created works of art, which like our Peri-Peri Chicken, are a feast
for
the senses.
Welcome to the artsy-craftsy world of Nando’s
Malaysia! |

Mac Chung Lynn,
CEO Nando's Malaysia |
Greetings, or as we in the Nando’s family say, Bom
Dia!
It gives me great pleasure to launch the Art Project
in Nando’s Malaysia. Nando’s originated from South
Africa and as such, its roots are steeped in African
culture and heritage. Nando’s, being a Glocal brand,
sees its mission as a Global company supporting the
local communities it has a presence in.
With a presence now in over 30 countries, Nando’s is
able to give back to the countries by recognizing that
each country has local people with exceptional talents.
By incoporating art into the decor in Nando’s restaurants, Nando’s
provides the perfect platform to recognize talents from diverse
backgrounds. |
In Malaysia, this incorporation of art has provided 7 artists to
date, a place to display their art. All art pieces were
specially commisioned with a specific brief and the artists used
as much natural and local materials in interpreting “Nando’s”
into either 2D or 3D pieces. This book showcases these 7 young
artists and their exceptional Nando’s inspired art.
In extension to the Art Project, Nando’s Malaysia would also
like to launch the inaugural Nando’s art competition, themed
“Peri-fy your art”. I feel that Nando’s Malaysia provides an
ideal platform for young budding artists to showcase their
skills. And with the added anticipation of 8 new restaurants in
2008, the works of these talents will definitely have a
place to call home.
I would like to thank all 7 artists who have decorated our walls
last year by providing the texture and colour that one
recognizes Nando’s for, the members of the media for your
continuous support and the representatives of universities and
colleges who will be helping support the “Peri-fy your art”
competition.
Here’s to the young Artsy Talents in Malaysia!.

Art is an important aspect
in nourishing the soul of a nation. As such, I applaud
Nando’s Malaysia in their efforts of the Art Project,
which will indelibly nurture and support Malaysian artists
further.
The presence of local art in their restaurants will indeed
raise the profile of the artists as well as enhance the
dining experience for
patrons in an environment surrounded with art. Thus far, 7
artists works are already displayed in selected premises,
and as the years go by, more artworks will adorn the walls
of the restaurants showing the rich artistic diversity of
styles and expressions found in the
country.
I would also like to congratulate Nando’s, for launching the
inaugural “Peri-fy your art” competition, which will give
opportunity
to aspiring artists from colleges and universities
throughout Malaysia to immerse themselves in art and
kick-start their involvement in
the local art scene.
With full dedication, the Nando’s committee handles the Art
Project with enormous gusto, from formulating the
competition rules,
advertising the event, forming the panel of judges, judging
the competition, staging the exhibition and publishing the
catalogue.
Such enthusiasm is praise worthy and will certainly
contribute to the promotion and patronage of local arts.
I am proud to be part of this exciting programme, and hope
that positive and rewarding benefits will come about for
Nandos and
our local artists and most importantly this honourable
endeavour will certainly make art more accessible to the
public, beyond the confines of galleries and museums.
Thank you once again and wishing you the very best!
